Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (ILSC)

The purpose of the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews course is to teach crew members with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role.

Kodiak Challenge  is usually held within a high adventure trek, but high adventure is not required.  The trek needs to have a vision, requires planning and involves teamwork to reach the group's vision of success.  You will learn leadership skills and put the seven leadership skills of the Introduction to Leadership Skills courses into practice in a trek environment.  The unit specific Intro to Leadership Skills course is required for Kodiak: ILSC for Crews, ILSS for Ships, ILST for Troops and Teams.

All units (Troops, Teams, Crews and Ships) with older youth and the desire to plan a trek will be able to make use of Kodiak.  The requirements to attend are:

Venturers can attend Powder Horn as soon as they join a Crew.  This enhances all the Scouting programs, since Powder Horn also enrolls Boy Scout and Varsity Scout leaders and not just Venturing Advisors.

Venturers can take Wood Badge for the 21st Century.  Venturers who are 18 or older are welcome to attend Wood Badge.  So, go 'work your ticket' and earn your Wood Badge beads.

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
NYLT is now open to all programs, including venturing youth (male and female) between the ages of 13 and 17.  The course models a month in the life of a unit – three meetings (one each day for the first three days) all leading up to a big outdoor experience (an overnight outpost camp). The course uses the patrol method and presents model Leader Council meetings.
