On May 17th, 18th and 19th the Area 5 VOA is hosting our venturing “Back to Medieval Days" at:

Camp Acahela in Northeastern Pennsylvania Council

You don’t want to miss this one! .

 

This year we are really venturing back to medieval days by making swords, shields, and tunics.  Well they are foam but the same kind the SCA uses in their reenactment scenes. Better yet, not only will we be making these objects, but we will be putting them into action when we go over medieval battles and have battle scenarios.  Learn the strategy of the English and Scottish clans.  Learn their history and see a glimpse of what life was like in the middle ages.  We even have a tournament at the end of the day on Saturday. There will be a medieval dinner, where all participants are encouraged to dress up in medieval costumes, followed by a, campfire, movies, puzzles, and a cracker barrel.
 
All meals and cracker barrels are included along with the sword, rykers axe, and shield you will be making.  We supply all the material.  You just need to bring a flat twin sheet and a roll of your favorite duct tape. (we give you your first roll of silver)  and  all for only $40.00 but register by May 1st and get a $5.00 discount. 
Making this event come to life is a master in blacksmithing, and fighting techniques, Joe Piela. Joe has been in blacksmithing for 33 years and has been involved with medieval reacting for over 31 years. You can see some of Joe's work on page 49 of the book, “Techniques of Medieval Armour Reproduction” by Brian Price.

 

Joe is also involved in movies. He made armor and weapons that were used in some films, including making all the weapons and armor for the “Legend of Zelda Trailer”. If you are familiar with Zelda, you may know about the Masters Sword.

To participate in a weekend of fun and excitement you may register by April 30th for the low price of $35.00. Any registrants after May 1st  can come for still a low price $40.00.
